Summary of Duties:

Works under the direction of a Supervisor or designate. Responsible for metal fabrications, repairs and welding activities.

Main Duties:

  • Performs metal fabrication, repairs, and welding duties such as sharpening, forming of metal parts, repairs to tools, railings, tow hitches, buckets.
  • Removes and installs hydraulic cylinders and panels.
  • Makes special tools and jigs.
  • Removes and replaces mechanical components as required.
  • Performs electric, mig acetylene welding and “plasma” cutting, etc.
  • Modifies and prepares replacement and external vehicles for service.
  • Uses hand and power tools and equipment such as the grinder, drill, shear, power saw, electric and acetylene welding equipment, pipe threader, ladders.
  • Requisitions steel, materials, and welding rods required for stock and work through the Supervisor.
  • Produces metal components from drawings provided.
  • Plans flow of work in progress for employee’s own activities.
  • Prepares and maintains written work records (i.e. time sheets).
  • Periodically assumes some of the normal supervisory responsibilities over others.
  • As assigned, performs related duties which are transient, or of an emergency nature, or which are minor but recurring.

Educations Qualifications:

Successful completion of Grade 12 in the Province of Ontario or equivalent with a major in Automotive, Welding or Mechanical Technology, or equivalent.

Specialized Training & Licenses:

  • 30 months relevant experience.
  • Valid Class DZ Driver's Licence.
  • Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Note: Shift work may be required.

Compensation & Other Information:

$31.78 - $35.28 per hour
