Summary of Duties:

Under the direction of a Supervisor or designate. Provides tree maintenance services on trees on the road allowance and in parks including activities such as trimming, hydro line clearing, tree and stump removal, pest control and tree planting.

Main Duties:

  • Performs tree climbing using rope and saddle and tree trimming, cabling and bracing using up-to-date arboricultural practices.
  • Operate aerial bucket trucks and chipper.
  • Remove dead, decayed or hazardous trees and stumps and restore work site upon completion of work.
  • Clean up fallen and damaged limbs and trees as a result of wind, rain and ice storms including cutting and chipping and hauling brush.
  • Trim and cut trees and hedges to ensure sight lines are maintained for traffic, signs, and bicycle visibility.
  • Plant and transplant trees of all sizes.
  • Install Christmas lights on trees and other structures for Winter Wonderland in Victoria Park and other locations as required.
  • On a continuing basis, assumes some of the normal supervisory responsibilities over others.
  • Keeps records as required.
  • As assigned, performs related duties which are transient, or of an emergency nature, or which are minor but recurring.

Educations Qualifications:

Successful completion of Grade 12 in the Province of Ontario plus a 6 month post, secondary program from a recognized Community College in Forestry Urban Forestry, Arboriculture or the equivalent.

Specialized Training & Licenses:

  • Thorough working knowledge of OHSA.
  • Thorough working knowledge in forestry operations.
  • Certified Arborist certificate from the Ministry of Skills & Labour or.International Society of Arboriculture.
  • Current Chainsaw certificate and current First aid and CPR certificate or ability to obtain.
  • Valid Class DZ Driver’s Licence.

Note: Shift work may be required.

Compensation & Other Information:

$33.36 - $37.09 per hour
