Summary of Duties:

Reporting to the Supervisor of Taxation and Revenue, is responsible for the timely processing of adjustments to the Collector’s Roll, updating and maintenance of the VTax Taxation System, processing refunds resulting from overpayments of tax accounts and court reductions, and handling communications with the public resulting from processing of tax/assessment appeals, tax roll additions, and payment of refunds.

Work Performed:

  • Analyses various computer reports to identify out of balance conditions, error conditions and edit messages and makes corrections as appropriate.
  • Prepares appropriate journal entries relating to additions and reductions to the various subledger and general ledger accounts resulting from assessment appeals, tax appeals, and miscellaneous additions and adjustments including retroactive recalculation of penalty and interest charges and phase-in and verification of payee’s right to funds. Handles communications and correspondence with the public as required.
  • Performs account analysis ad reconciliations and related journal entries.
  • Responsible for verification of tax adjustment processed by the Assessment area.
  • Responsible for billing of realty tax accounts resulting from court decisions and additions to the collectors Roll as authorized by By-Laws, Provincial and Federal legislation.
  • Prepares requisitions for payment of Division accounts. Maintains files and authorizations to support payments made.
  • Processes applications for tax strike-offs (realty accounts) and related discussions with taxpayers.
  • Monitors and maintains the account receivables and assessment totals.
  • Responsible for timely monthly cost-off of tax system. Updates ad maintains the automated tax system.
  • Responsible for addition of City of London receivable invoices to the tax systema n balancing tax receivable accounts and various balance sheet accounts.
  • Researches and analyses credit balances on tax accounts and coordinates informatization with legal firms and individuals. Prepares and receives bond of indemnity forms and direction forms as required.
  • Prepares and processes documentation for refund cheques and discusses with taxpayers, banks, and legal representatives.
  • Maintains and controls corporate files of source accounting documents.
  • Responds to telephone and counter inquiries as required.
  • Assists in processing installment billings.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Two-year Community College Business – Accounting Diploma

Experience:

One to two years’ related experience.

Specialized Training & Licenses:

Skills and abilities in the following areas are necessary:
Unit I and II of the Municipal Tax Administration Program.

Compensation & Other Information:

$49,450 - $69,530 (Level 9)

This posting is for one (1) temporary full-time up to 1 year position.

Current hours of Work: Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 

Work Arrangement: On-site. 

These hours of work are subject to change in accordance with the Collective Agreement and may include evening hours and Saturdays.
