Summary of Duties:
Reporting to the Manager, Licensing and Customer Service, the Supervisor, Food Services and Events is responsible for the daily operations of the Top of the Hall Café at City Hall and providing direction and management to ensure food services are being delivered efficiently and effectively to meet the customer and corporation needs. This position is also responsible for coordinating corporate catering services and special events while providing customer service to all City of London patrons.
Work Performed:
- Supervise employees including hiring, training, coaching, administration and performance management. Respond to confidential human resources matters as required and support employee development and engagement. Provide training on new procedures or new equipment for staff.
- Lead and oversee delivery of services and programs in key accountability areas such as:
- Develop and monitor shift schedules of staff and ensure all shifts are filled as required.
- Coordinate with internal and external event hosts to determine special event needs, terms of space, planning and food services as required. Obtain required permits for special events when required.
- Work with external vendors to deliver special events in the cafeteria. Ensure that all safe food handing policies and processes are followed.
- Provide monthly reconciliation, costing, balance budgets and complete month end reporting to the Manager, Licensing and Customer Service.
- Prepare and submit bank deposits and process catering requisitions for various divisions across the corporation.
- Oversee inventory management, ordering and cost control to maintain inventory levels of all food and supplies.
- Maintain public health regulations, attend monthly inspections and take any action necessary to ensure compliance.
- Ensure adherence to all appropriate sanitation standards including employee hygiene, kitchen food service equipment and preparation areas, food storage areas, and dining areas.
- Address equipment issues to ensure the proper function and safety of all equipment.
- Mentor and develop direct reports to build high-performing teams, support employee engagement and commitment to individual, divisional and organizational goals.
- Demonstrate commitment to anti-racism, anti-oppression, and human rights through inclusive practices, interactions and programs.
- Promote and adhere to health and safety legislation and foster a culture of safety with direct reports.
- Track performance measures for the Top of the Hall Café and events using appropriate data collection and analytics to help inform goals of the area.
- Build and encourage employee commitment to a high level of performance in all areas of customer service, employee safety and delivery of individual goals and objectives.
- Apply collective agreements fairly and consistently.
- Participate as directed on various internal committees and teams.
- Provide assistance during the municipal election.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities:
Skills and abilities in the following areas are necessary:
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in food service management with experience in of daily operations, catering and private event management with an understanding of service delivery and the Unit’s programs and services.
- Demonstrated success leading or supervising employees, contracted services and consultants.
- Strong verbal, written, interpersonal, communication, facilitation, and presentation skills; demonstrated political acumen.
- Committed to employee safety; knowledgeable in the Occupational Health and Safety Act and how it relates to the position.
- Ability to understand the importance of service delivery; develop and implement initiatives that support the Unit’s customers in a timely and effective way.
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal and customer services skills, including conflict resolution and problem solving; demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with diverse populations within the community; experience working collaboratively with vendors, clients, and other community partners.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to work varied hours to meet requirements of the position.
Qualifications:
- Successful completion of a Two-year Community College program in Nutrition Management or Food and Beverage Management or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Three to five years of related experience in food service management including team leadership or supervisory responsibilities.
- Completion of the Smart Serve Certification and Food Handler Certification are required.
- Current Standard First Aid Certification is required.
- Red Seal Designation is an asset.
- Membership in the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management is an asset.
Compensation & Other Information:
$80,770 - $105,948
This posting is for 1 permanent full-time position being filled on a permanent full-time basis.
Current hours of Work: Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Work Arrangement: Onsite. Subject to change in accordance with business requirements.
