Summary of Duties:
Assists with the planning, coordination, and execution of Water Engineering’s outreach and educational programs. This program focuses on working with residents to provide comments on potential changes/improvements to their property to make it more environmentally friendly.
Work Performed:
This opportunity requires knowledge of:
- Water usage habits, and water conservation best practices.
- Installing strap-on portable water meters.
- Manipulating and visualizing interval water data.
- Low impact development design and how it can assist with drainage issues.
- Residential landscaping practices and plant identification (and water efficient plant selection).
- Both native and non-native plants (trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals, grasses etc).
- The pesticide ban in Ontario, and how to properly use alternative options.
- Basement flooding causes, weeping tiles, and sump pumps.
- Generate short insightful reports for residents who are looking for advice and recommendations regarding their water use habits.

Other tasks include but are not limited to:
- Review and create outreach material for print and digital media (AODA Compliance, graphic design, 3D modelling, web design experience will be considered an asset).
- Correspond with customers as needed on behalf of the City.
- Inventory and organize outreach material.
- Conduct research over the internet and phone on various ongoing projects related to water conservation.
- Present and work with the public (of all ages, including workshops for children)
- Represent the City at public events and provide excellent customer service to residents by answering questions and directing their questions to the appropriate department.
- Assist with data analysis projects by collecting, sorting, and formatting raw data; strong expertise in Excel required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Student must be enrolled in the disciplines of Engineering, Sciences and/or a related Environmental Program.
Must be a current student enrolled in full-time studies returning to school full-time September 2025 and/or require this placement to graduate from an academic program.
Specialized Training & Licenses:
Student MUST possess a full G Class License recognized in the Province of Ontario.
Clean drivers abstract is required.
Compensation & Other Information:
$22.44/hour
This posting is for two (2) temporary full-time up to 4 month student positions (May - September 2025).
Current hours of Work: Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Weekend & Shift Work may be required (potential evenings and weekends).
Work Arrangement: Hybrid. Subject to change in accordance to business requirements.

The successful candidate will be required to complete a Criminal Record Check.
