Summary of Duties:

Reports to the Waste Diversion Coordinator, Manager- Solid Waste Engineering and Division Manager, Solid Waste Management. Undertakes research on waste management issues including collecting and synthesizing information, data manipulation and analysis; exercises problem solving skills, prepares advice and formulates recommendations/solutions; prepares reports; manages contracts for construction/remediation projects at closed landfills and other waste management facilities.

Work Performed:

  • Responsible for the preparation of recommendations and comprehensive reports related to solid waste management with including collecting and synthesizing information, undertaking research, data manipulation, critical thinking and analysis, problem solving and formulating practical solutions and strategies.
  • Provides research, analysis and recommendations relating to special projects.
  • Researches information, current and historical, with respect to closed landfills and contaminated properties and provide interpretation of complex data from various sources.
  • Analyzes solid waste management data and issues and identifies means for better tracking, understanding and gathering information.
  • Develops, implements and coordinates data management systems for solid waste metrics.
  • Provides information, advice and recommendations to the public, lawyers, real estate agents, developers, engineering consultants, other divisions and government agencies with respect to closed landfills and contaminated sites.
  • Leads various monitoring programs to collect, synthesize, analyze and prepare reports on waste management-related trends.
  • Analyzes and advises on the impact of various policy alternatives.
  • Prepares presentations for various groups both internal and external.
  • Involved in the preparation and coordination of contracts, tenders, quotations and small construction/remediation projects with respect to solid waste operations, closed landfills and other waste management facilities.
  • Supervises students as required.
  • Supports the work of Planners, Engineers and others in the Environmental Programs and Solid Waste on various planning and engineering projects and programs.
  • Performs the duties of the Solid Waste Technician as required.
  • In performing this work, deals with a variety of external and internal stakeholders, including, but not limited to, the public, outside government agencies, neighbourhood groups, members of the waste management industry, various interest groups, consultants hired by the City of London, etc.
  • Attends meetings as required related to the functions above.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

University Degree (with Honours) in Planning, Geography, Environmental Science or Engineering

Experience:

Three to four years' related experience

Specialized Training & Licenses:

Skills and abilities in the following areas are necessary:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets and various software.
  • Valid driver's license- Class G.
  • Working knowledge of the municipal waste management, health and safety regulations and construction practices.

Compensation & Other Information:

$58,149 - $84,127 (Level 13)

This posting is for one (1) temporary full-time up to 2 years position.

Current hours of Work: Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 

Work Arrangement: Hybrid. Subject to change in accordance with business requirements.

These hours of work are subject to change in accordance with the Collective Agreement and may include evening hours and Saturdays.
