Summary of Duties:

Works under the direction of a Supervisor or designate to perform a variety of duties related to the construction, maintenance, and operation of the sanitary sewer and storm sewer infrastructure.

Main Duties:

  • Performs functions related to the installation, maintenance and repair of the sewer infrastructure (i.e. storm & sanitary sewers, manholes, catch basins, private drain connections and related appurtenances).
  • Assists Leading Sewer Construction Operator in solving drainage and sewer related problems.
  • With assistance from the Leading Sewer Construction Operator as required, read drawings, electronic records, and related grade sheets.
  • Operates the crew truck, Hydro-Vacuum Excavator, Pipe Bursting Equipment, Lateral Lining Equipment and other specialized hydraulic & pneumatic wastewater equipment.
  • Assists the Leading Sewer Construction Operator in obtaining information for reports, activity records and inventory sheets.
  • Understands and applies Municipal By-laws, Standards, Specifications, Policies and Procedures as they relate to sewer infrastructure.
  • Understands and adheres to all applicable Province of Ontario Regulations related to the operation of sewage systems.
  • Works in close proximity to heavy traffic and in other adverse conditions.
  • Regularly works in confined spaces.
  • May be required to show others how to perform tasks or duties.
  • As assigned, performs related duties which are transient, or of an emergency nature, or which are minor but recurring.

Educations Qualifications:

Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent

Specialized Training & Licenses:

  • Ontario Wastewater Collection Operator Licence - Class 2
  • Thorough knowledge of the sewer infrastructure, Municipal Construction Standards and Specifications
  • Thorough knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act with emphasis on trenching, excavations, and confined space entry
  • First Aid / CPR Certification
  • Valid Class DZ Driver's Licence
  • Confined Space Entry Training

Note: Shift work or standby may be required in order to respond to emergencies.

Compensation & Other Information:

$31.78 - $35.28 per hour

This posting is for one (1) permanent full-time position being filled on a permanent full-time basis.
