Summary of Duties:

Reporting to the Manager of Taxation and Accounting Services, is responsible for the timely processing of adjustments to the Collector’s Roll, payment-in-lieu and mortgage company billings and payments, processing refunds resulting from overpayments of tax accounts and court reductions, and handling communications with the public resulting from processing of tax/assessment appeals, tax roll additions, and payment of refunds.

Work Performed:

  • Assists in PIL and tax billings (mortgage companies, PAP and supplementaries).
  • Ensures that adjustments to tax accounts (divisions, cap adjustments, phase-ins) required to be completed by Provincial Legislation are carried out.
  • Coordinates tax roll changes resulting from changes in name, address, legal description, assessment, etc.
  • Responsible for ensuring monthly tax close-offs are carried out efficiently and effectively.
  • Responsible for coordinating monthly reconciliation of the Tax Collectors roll and related accounts to the general ledger.
  • Assists in the preparation and monitoring of the tax related revenue budget providing input for budget and payments-in-lieu budget.
  • Responsible for providing preliminary review of various job functions completed by the tax accounting clerks.
  • Processes mortgage company and developer payments provided in prescribed list form.
  • Completes tax account analysis and related journals.
  • Assists in the development of policies and procedures relative to the tax accounting function.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Three year Community College Business - Accounting Diploma.

Experience:

Two to three years' related experience.

Specialized Training & Licenses:

Unit I and II of the Municipal Tax Administration Program.

Compensation & Other Information:

$53,832 - $76,833 (Level 11)

This posting is for one (1) permanent full-time position.

Current hours of Work: Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 

Work Arrangement: On-site. Subject to change in accordance with business requirements.

These hours of work are subject to change in accordance with the Collective Agreement and may include evening hours and Saturdays.
