Summary of Duties:

Reports to the Manager of Corporate Security within the Corporate Security & Emergency Management Division. Assists in the planning, project management, contract administration and maintenance of security infrastructure for the corporation. Develop various long range plans and policies relating to Corporate Security.

Work Performed:

  • Develops, maintains and monitors the long-range security plan and recommends policies to implement the plan, including revisions.
  • Assists with the preparation of tender documents, quotations, and requests for proposals. Prepares conceptual, presentation contract drawings by hand and/or using AutoCAD; general requirements and technical specifications. Recommends approval for payment on invoicing and payment certificates.
  • Assists in the planning, design, operation and maintenance of corporate security systems.
  • Assists in the preparation, monitoring, administering and approving expenditures from the current and capital budgets for security projects.
  • Evaluates the ongoing effectiveness of security systems in meeting their intended objectives and recommends improvements in both systems and methods.
  • Assists in defining and maintaining core training competencies for each program area within Corporate security including regulatory licences and certifications.
  • Assists with the planning, administering, assigning, reviewing, and/or recommending acceptance of various security systems submitted by engineering consultants, planners, developers, contractors and others for approval by the Division on behalf of the Department.
  • Recommends changes to technical policies, methods, procedures and bylaws to deal with deviations from accepted standards, precedents or situations.
  • Communicates the security planning aspects of a project effectively when dealing with Professional Engineers, technologists, other representatives of the development industry, other City Departments and Divisions, Ministries and the general public.
  • Prepares reports for recommendation by the Corporate Security and Emergency Management Division Manager, various Committees of Council, other committees, City Manager and City Engineer as required.
  • Arranges and participates in meetings with other Departmental/Divisional staff, developers, consultants, contractors and fire services, individuals and other agencies to plan, discuss and coordinate security projects on behalf of the Division/Department as required.
  • Reviews and replies to reports, inquiries and complaints related to security.
  • Performs specialty departmental resources projects and related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Two year Community College Diploma in a Security/Security Systems Technology related program.

Experience:

Five (5) years related experience as a Security/Alarm System Technician/Technologist.

Specialized Training & Licenses:

Skills and abilities in the following areas are necessary:

  • Specialized training should include: relevant legislation, codes, security system development, implementation and maintenance.
  • Must possess excellent technical writing skills and experience creating and developing training materials and programs.
  • Must possess excellent verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated computer experience with a variety of software applications.
  • Valid Class G drivers licence.
  • Submit completed criminal background check.

Compensation & Other Information:

$56,039 - $80,480 (Level 12)

This posting is for one (1) permanent full-time position.

Current hours of Work: Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Work Arrangement: Onsite. Subject to change in accordance with business requirements.

These hours of work are subject to change in accordance with the Collective Agreement and may include evening hours and Saturdays.
