Summary:

 Aquatic Services provide London families and individuals of all ages with opportunities to participate in unstructured aquatic activities and structured educational programs to teach drowning prevention and water safety.

Role:

Reporting to the Supervisor, Recreation Services, the Instructor/Lifeguard is responsible for preparing and delivering lessons in the Learn to Swim program and supervising all activities happening in the pool while ensuring a safe and enjoyable aquatic experience for Londoners. This casual position works as part of a team in a public facing fast paced aquatic environment providing high quality programs while providing excellent customer service.

Job Responsibilities

  • Actively monitor and participate in programming within the facility including but not limited to swim lessons, facility rentals and drop-in recreational programming. 
  • Promote public water safety education and participate in drowning prevention initiatives. 
  • Accountable for all activities and programs while on duty at the pool. 
  • Assist in the promotion and advertising of programs and activities.
  • Ensure accurate, timely and complete submission of all forms and records including but not limited to worksheets, progress cards, accident, and incident reports. 
  • Carry out cleaning duties as assigned. 
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills and a positive and professional attitude when communicating with participants, parents, the public, and co-workers.
  • Demonstrate commitment to anti-racism, anti-oppression and human rights through practices and interactions with community partners, employees, and individuals and support programs and initiatives that reflect this commitment. 
  • Demonstrate commitment and adherence to Health and Safety legislation and programs; actively promote a culture of safety. 
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Current Standard First Aid Certificate (prior to the start of employment)
  • Current Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor (SI) 
  • Current Lifesaving Society Instructor (LSI) 
  • Current National Lifeguard 
  • Vulnerable Sector Police Check (VSPC) (prior to the start of employment)
  • Must be 15 years of age as per Ontario Health Regulation 565

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to demonstrate good communication, high energy, enthusiasm and continued positive attitude. 
  • Ability to demonstrate interpersonal and customer service skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team. 
  • High level of comfort in fast paced public facing environments. 
  • Experience working with children, youth and/or adults with special needs an asset.
  • Second language is an asset (please indicate on resume).

Other Information:

Rate of Pay: $17.75 per hour
