Summary:

Aquatic Services provide London families and individuals of all ages with opportunities to participate in unstructured aquatic activities and structured educational programs to teach drowning prevention and water safety.

Role:

Reporting to the Supervisor, Aquatics, the Head Instructor/Lifeguard is responsible for opening and closing procedures at the pool, providing support to a variety of aquatic programs and ensuring a safe and enjoyable aquatic experience for Londoners. This casual position works as part of a team in a public facing fast paced aquatic environment providing high quality programs while providing excellent customer service.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the safety and supervision of the participants and staff to ensure that policies, rules and regulations are followed.
  • Responsible for the safety, security and cleanliness of the facility.
  • Provide support and coordination to a variety of aquatic programs such as, drop-in programs, pool rentals, registered programs and special events.
  • Act as a positive role model, work as a team to ensure staff are following protocols.
  • Coordinate staff rotations, breaks, delegation of tasks, work assignments.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills along with a professional and positive attitude when communicating with the public and customers.
  • Provide support as an Instructor/Lifeguard, Aquatic Attendant, Cashier and/or Building Attendant and maintain certifications for those positions.
  • Perform cash, instructional, lifeguarding and aquafit duties as required.
  • Knowledgeable of city programs and policies.
  • Responsible for securing facility before and after programs.
  • Participate in training sessions.
  • Demonstrate commitment to anti-racism, anti-oppression and human rights through practices and interactions with community partners, employees, and individuals and support programs and initiatives that reflect this commitment.
  • Demonstrate commitment and adherence to Health and Safety legislation and programs; actively promote a culture of safety.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • One to two years’ experience as an Instructor/Lifeguard
  • Current Standard First Aid Certificate
  • Current National Lifeguard Certificate
  • Current Lifesaving Instructor Certificate
  • Current LSS Swim Instructor Certificate
  • Current Airway Management
  • Current Bronze Examiner
  • Vulnerable Persons Police Screening (prior to the start of employment)

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to demonstrate good communication, high energy, enthusiasm and continued positive attitude.
  • Ability to demonstrate interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • High level of comfort in fast paced public facing environments.
  • Second language is an asset (please indicate on resume).
  • Coaching experience recommended.

Other Information:

Starting Wage: $19.50 per hour
