Summary:

Role:

Reporting to the Supervisor, Recreation Services, the Food Services Coordinator, Senior Centres works to provide City of London patrons with food and beverages in a safe and clean environment at senior centres across the city. This casual position is responsible for preparing and serving meals (often catering style for 100 people), point of sale transactions, proper food rotation and providing excellent customer service.

Job Responsibilities

  • Set up and maintain food service areas to ensure cleanliness of tables and food service areas.
  • Prepare and serve food and beverages.
  • Ensure proper storage and rotation of food and beverages. 
  • Complete and accountable for all point-of-sale transactions, daily balancing including associated paperwork. 
  • Create menus, suggest menu ideas and for daily specials and monthly special events. 
  • Ensure all cash handling is completed in an accurate manner. 
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills and a positive and professional attitude when communicating with the public and co-workers.
  • Place bulk orders for food and shop for other items as necessary. 
  • Maintain accurate records daily for inventory controls, timesheets, safety checks, accident and incident reports and operational evaluations. 
  • Assist with ensuring compliance with all Board of Health.    
  • Prepare food for special events with large numbers. 
  • Ensure that equipment and facilities are in safe working condition and report any concerns to the Coordinator/Supervisor. 
  • Act as a liaison between front line staff and supervisor to promote teamwork and clear lines of communication and to ensure health and safety requirements are met and reported in a timely manner.
  • Complete all required paperwork and reports as outlined by Supervisor.
  • Attend regular staff meetings as required by Supervisor. 
  • Demonstrate commitment to anti-racism, anti-oppression, and human rights through practices and interactions with community partners, employees and individuals and support programs and initiatives that reflect this commitment. 
  • Demonstrate commitment and adherence to Health and Safety legislation and programs; actively promote a culture of safety.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.
     

Qualifications:

  • Vulnerable Sector Police Check (VSPC) (prior to the start of employment)
  • Standard First Aid Certificate (prior to the start of employment)
  • Safe Food Handling Certificate (prior to the start of employment)
  • Kitchen experience is preferred.
  • Access to a vehicle preferred. 

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to demonstrate interpersonal and customer service skills. 
  • Ability to coordinate and place order through food service company. 
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team. 
  • High level of comfort in fast paced public facing environments. 
  • Knowledge of Board of Health regulations.

Other Information:

Starting Wage: $18.25 per hour
