Summary:

Recreation programs provide all citizens the opportunity to improve self-esteem, motor skills, creativity, physical fitness, and social skills through a variety of crafts, arts, and physical activities.

Role:

Reporting to a Recreation Supervisor, the Fitness Program Coordinator assists with the delivery of fitness programs across the City of London. This casual position works as part of a team in a public facing fast paced environment ensuring programs are run efficiently to meet the needs of the participants while providing excellent customer service to City of London patrons and volunteers.

Job Responsibilities

  • Visit programming sites across the city to check in with fitness program instructors.
  • Act as a liaison between front line staff and Supervisor to promote teamwork and clear lines of communication and to ensure health and safety requirements are met and reported in a timely manner.
  • Assist with the completion of staff evaluations to ensure program is meeting fitness industry standards, program benefits, and compliance of staff policy and procedures.
  • Responsible for the coordination of administrative functions including accurate record keeping of staff uniforms, training, and qualifications. 
  • Stay informed on fitness trends and use participant feedback to assist with the creation of new programs and marketing opportunities. 
  • Complete all required paperwork and reports as outlined by Supervisor.
  • Assist in interviewing front line fitness instructors.
  • Provide coaching and support to all fitness staff, including training and performance evaluation.
  • Assist with creating diverse and innovative advertising and promotion of all fitness services provided by the City of London.
  • Ensure all fitness staff complete documentation on a regular basis for attendance, accident reports etc.
  • Assist with distribution of evaluations and program literature as required.
  • Responsible for the ongoing inventory maintenance and monitor the use of equipment and supplies, conduct inventory counts and re-stock as needed.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills and a positive and professional attitude when communicating with the public and co-workers.
  • Attend regular staff meetings as required by supervisor.
  • Demonstrate commitment to anti-racism, anti-oppression, and human rights through practices and interactions with community partners, employees and individuals and support programs and initiatives that reflect this commitment.
  • Demonstrate commitment and adherence to Health and Safety legislation and programs; actively promote a culture of safety.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned. 

Qualifications:

  • Two years’ experience in the fitness field 
  • Certification in fitness required: Can Fit Pro (FIS), Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP), Center of Activity and Aging (SFIC) or equivalent; or Yoga Certification from a recognized provider with a minimum of 200 training hours; or Pilates Certification from a recognized provider preferably Stott Pilates; or Zumba Certification from a recognized provider with a certification in specialized Zumba classes including Zumba Toning, or Zumba Gold.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software including publisher, excel and word.
  • Access to a vehicle at all times during scheduled working hours and proof of a valid driver’s license and car insurance.
  • Vulnerable Sector Police Check (VSPC) (Prior to the start of the program)
  • Standard First Aid (prior to the start of the program

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to demonstrate good communication, high energy, enthusiasm and continued positive attitude.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of behaviour modification techniques.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Second language is an asset (please indicate on resume).
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software including publisher, excel and word and Xplor Recreation registration software (Preferred).
  • High level of comfort in fast paced public facing environments.
  • Ability to be flexible and travel throughout the city as required by Supervisor.

Other Information:

Wage: $18.25 - $21.75 per hour

Hours of work include evenings and weekends.

Casual position with 10 hours per week.
