Role:

Reporting to the Manager, Special Events, the Neighbourhood Program Assistant (Events and Equipment) is responsible for providing event support and coordinating the outdoor movie night program and equipment loaning program. This casual position works primarily evenings and weekends as part of a team in the community assisting event organizers and residents through neighbourhood and city-wide events. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Guide and assist event organizers, residents, neighbourhood groups, and City of London staff to support successful events in municipal owned spaces.
  • Provide onsite support and leadership to outdoor movie nights, including technology set up and take down, safety and equipment checks, resident engagement, and direction to City of London event staff. 
  • Administer and assist organizers to utilize the Event Equipment Lending Program
  • Provide onsite support and leadership to special events including providing support and direction to City of London event staff. 
  • Ensure all City of London policies and practices are followed.
  • Demonstrate commitment to anti-racism, anti-oppression, and human rights through practices and interactions with community partners, employees and individuals and support programs and initiatives that reflect this commitment. 
  • Demonstrate commitment and adherence to Health and Safety legislation and programs; actively promote a culture of safety.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Successfully complete (or in progress of completing) a university degree or community college diploma in social sciences, community development, social work, recreation or related field
  • Experience with problem solving in a fast paced, challenging customer service role.
  • Standard First Aid/CPR required (prior to the start of employment).
  • Vulnerable Sector Police Check (VSPC) (prior to the start of employment). 
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Use of a vehicle to travel to a variety of work locations and deliver supplies and equipment.
  • Able to often work evenings and weekends across London.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve and escalate problems appropriately.
  • Demonstrate interpersonal and customer service skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team. 
  • Good oral and written communication skills. 
  • High level of comfort in fast paced flexible public facing environments. 
  • Comfort with technological equipment and basic troubleshooting.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment, tables and chairs, and garbage and recycling bags.
  • Knowledge of community organizations and resources a strong asset.
  • Ability to speak other languages an asset.

Other Information:
