Summary of Duties:

Works under the direction of the Supervisor or designate. Installs, repairs and maintains plumbing, heating, process piping and auxiliary equipment at various City owned Facilities.

Main Duties:

  • Perform the work of a master plumber in the repair and maintenance of various plumbing/heating systems as per regulatory codes and by-laws.
  • Repairs, replaces or rebuilds gas fired appliances, plumbing fixtures, circulating pumps, valves, pipe/fittings, burners and combustion chambers, balancing valves, steam traps, heat exchangers and safety devices.
  • Performs a variety of repairs and preventative maintenance of piping, valves, fittings associated with heating/cooling, potable supply/waste vent/process piping.
  • Tests, analyses and repairs problems in plumbing and heating systems.
  • Installs and/or removes from service seasonal plumbing components and pool pumps; winterizes plumbing systems, fixtures, valves, piping and pumps in pools and seasonal buildings.
  • Uses appropriate welding equipment, test instruments, gauges and protective equipment to perform task; uses power and hand tools and equipment as required in trade.
  • Makes recommendations on heating, plumbing systems, mechanical equipment as to repairs, modifications or replacement in accordance with established methods and procedures and recommends changes to procedures and methods.
  • Prepares and maintains work records, requisitions materials, take off materials lists from blueprints and drawings.
  • Periodically assumes some of the normal supervisory duties over others.
  • As assigned, performs related duties which are transient or of an emergency nature or which are minor, but recurring.

Educations Qualifications:

Successful completion of Grade 12 in the Province of Ontario or equivalent plus successful completion of an apprenticeship as a Plumber.

Specialized Training & Licenses:

  • Valid Class G Driver's Licence.
  • Master Plumbers Licence.
  • Gas Fitter II Licence
  • Valid Certificate of Qualification as a Plumber.
  • Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Backflow Inspection Certificate

Note: Shift work may be required.

Compensation & Other Information:

$37.82 - $42.04 per hour
