Summary of Duties:

Works under the direction of a Supervisor or designate.  Required to maintain and/or construct the electrical distribution systems and equipment in various City owned facilities

Main Duties:

  • Performs the work of an electrician in the construction, erection, repair, remodeling and alterations of various modifications performed as per Ontario Hydro and Electrical Safety Codes.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and troubleshoot problems on various pieces of electrical equipment and components.  Recommends changes to procedures and methods.
  • Installs panel boards, switch boxes, pull boxes and other related electrical devices.
  • Measures, cuts, threads and bends, assembles and installs electrical conduits and other related electrical devices and electrical conductor enclosures that connect panels, boxes, outlets and other related electrical devices.
  • Installs brackets, hangers or equipment for supporting electrical equipment.
  • Installs in or draws electrical conductors through conductor enclosures.
  • Prepares conductors for splicing of electrical connections, secures conductor connections by soldering or other mechanical means.  Re-insulates and protects conductor connections.
  • Tests a variety of electrical equipment of the proper function and repairs same.
  • Prepares and maintains written work records including sketches and rough electrical schematics.
  • May be required to show others how to perform tasks.
  • As assigned, performs related duties which are transient, or of an emergency nature, or which are minor but recurring.
     

Educations Qualifications:

Successful completion of Grade 12 in the Province of Ontario or equivalent plus successful completion of an apprenticeship as a Construction and Maintenance Electrician.

Specialized Training & Licenses:

  • Valid Class G Driver's Licence.
  • Master Electrician Licence.
  • Valid Certificate of Qualification as a Construction and Maintenance Electrician.
  • Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Note: Shift work may be required.

Compensation & Other Information:

$39..67 - $44.11 per hour

This posting is for one (1) permanent full-time positions being filled on a permanent basis.
