Summary of Duties:

Reporting to the Manager, Media, Brand and Reputation, the Graphic and Visual Designer supports projects and initiatives by creating and executing visual designs for communications projects targeted to both internal and external audiences of the Corporation of the City of London. In this role, the Graphic and Visual Designer will ensure there is a consistent application of branding and adherence to Corporate Brand Guidelines when producing print and web-ready marketing materials, visual identifiers, publications, presentations and other visual assets. The Graphic and Visual Designer will also prepare videos using different technologies (i.e., animation, film, etc.) for use in communication materials.

Work Performed:

  • Adheres to the Corporate Brand Identity Guidelines, providing information and advice regarding the use and application of Guidelines to Service Areas in the development and execution of projects.
  • Delivers creative, original and thoughtful internal and external visual communication materials, including but not limited to printed promotional materials, digital advertising, social media images, infographics, videos, animations, training materials, way signage, presentations, banners, displays, advertisements/posters, web site imagery, pamphlets, booklets, etc.
  • Works in a consultative role with Service Areas to create visually appealing products that meet project needs, aligned with corporate goals and Service Area expectations.
  • Identifies communication concepts and messages appropriate to initiatives/ activities and designs visual and graphic materials to meet the overall objectives.
  • Creates engaging digital and print materials to support communications efforts.
  • Stays current on graphic trends and software and ensures copyright and privacy laws are adhered to as well as the requirements of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
  • Provides input as requested for upgrading hardware and software products and equipment/technology related to graphic design.
  • Contributes to and maintains an image library that includes photos, illustrations, and other graphic elements that are appropriate for use by Service Areas.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a three-year community college in Graphic Design, Digital Media Production, or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Two years of previous related experience. Experience in digital media production is an asset.

Specialized Training & Licenses:

Skills and abilities in the following areas are necessary:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of traditional and new graphic design concepts, communications technologies, printing processes, videography, animation, illustration, and graphic design technology.
  • Proficient in Adobe creative cloud ─ Premiere Pro, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to anti-racism, anti-oppression, diversity and inclusion in developing concepts and materials.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Advanced skills and experience designing with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, an asset.
  • Knowledge of AODA requirements and the ability to develop materials that meet these requirements.
  • Animation and/or illustration experience is an asset.

Compensation & Other Information:

$50,934 - $71,616 (Level 9)

Current hours of Work: Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 

Work Arrangement: Hybrid. Subject to change in accordance with business requirements.

These hours of work are subject to change in accordance with the Collective Agreement and may include evening hours and Saturdays.
