Summary of Duties:

Reports to the Accounting Supervisor. Provides technical accounting support including account analysis and reconciliation, Federal and Provincial remittances and provides general clerical functions.

Work Performed:

  • Performs account analysis and reconciliations. Prepares and distributes special reports and schedules.
  • Assists staff in other Corporate Divisions in resolving general accounting problems.
  • Calculates liability, requisitions, payments and completes remittance advice reports as required.
  • Checks documentation from both internal and external sources for arithmetic accuracy, completeness and compliance with Corporate policy and standards.
  • Controls and routes documentation received by the City to appropriate staff.
  • Maintains and controls Corporate files of source accounting documents.
  • Reconciles all bank accounts, with corrections and Departmental notification.
  • Reconciles funds deposited from Community Services and Provincial Court offices to revenues and enters journal entries to General Ledger.
  • Use of ICON system for Provincial Offences and CLASS system for Parks and Recreation programs and facilities.
  • Prepares and processes documentation for bank transfers, stop payments and releases.
  • Maintains and controls miscellaneous accounts receivable.
  • Maintains vendor and customer master file.
  • Provides back-up to Accounts Receivable Clerk.
  • Performs clerical duties related to the job.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Two year Community College Business - Accounting Diploma.

Experience:

One to two years’ related experience.

Specialized Training & Licenses:

Skills and abilities in the following areas are necessary:

Demonstrated proficiency in wordprocessing, spreadsheets and various software.

Compensation & Other Information:

$45,891 - $63,961 (Level 8)

This posting is for one (1) permanent full-time position.

Current hours of Work: Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 

Work Arrangement: On-site. Subject to change in accordance with business requirements.

These hours of work are subject to change in accordance with the Collective Agreement and may include evening hours and Saturdays.
